I Am a Wellbody Woman; Janet Johnston
Hello! I’m Janet and I live with my husband Mike in a 117 year old house in Denver. We are child-free and just recently adopted a rescue dog named Chai. The name is fitting as we started our business, Savory Spice, 13 years ago when we moved here from Chicago. Denver has been good to us and we have since opened more stores across the country. By hiring “people who are smarter than we are” we have been able in just the last couple years to expand our lives to include more than just the business, which has been really nice. We camp, golf, make art, travel, cook and play as much as possible. I spend my personal free time in the garden, walking/jogging, doing yoga and dabbling in pottery. I’m also rebuilding a 1972 Ford Maverick with my father (Pop). I love tinkering, fixing and learning and this project has given me much opportunity to do that. I’m currently learning about drum brakes and differentials!
On Tribe: Two Tips for Creating Tribe?
1. Don’t force it. You know when you meet someone you click with. In an instant you feel like you’ve been friends forever. You feel no judgement. THESE gals are your tribe. Wait for that real connection rather than rushing into friendships that aren’t fulfilling or reciprocated. Quality over quantity.
2. Focus on you. This sounds counterintuitive, but by taking care of yourself and cultivating your own interests and hobbies, I think you actually start to attract the kinds of people you want in your tribe. It’s not just what you can get out of your relationships, but what kind of positive energy can you bring to them.

On Movement: The top 2-3 ways that you love to move
Janet: I work out fairly regularly and that includes yoga and old school work outs. By ‘old school’ I mean walking/running/push-ups/pull-ups/sit ups, etc. No gym fees required and it gets me outside. In terms of pure movement, I love to dance. But I can’t get into that ‘dance like nobodies watching’ saying. I say dance like they are, that you are the bomb-diddly and you know it! Own it!
On Food: What does clean eating mean to you?
Janet: To me, clean eating means fruits, veggies, grains. Stay away from the white stuff (flour/sugar/cocaine) and drink lot’s of lemon water. I try to do a pretty thorough cleanse once a year and eat super ‘clean’ for a week or two.

On Love: How do you balance self care into your schedule?
Janet: The key word here is ‘schedule’. If I don’t schedule ‘my time’ into my calendar, it won’t happen. Time to work out in the morning and meditate afterword is imperative to my physical, mental and spiritual health. I also like to do Sunday Spa Nights. I go upstairs early and trim, shave, pluck, wash, scrub and soak. Nothing better than getting into clean sheets with freshly shaved legs.
